Operation Remount

Marc Taylor, in Collaborative’s Vice President of Human Quality Management, just got back from taking part in Operation Remount — a program that partners with the Bureau of Land Management to place unhandled wild mustangs from holding into the hands of veterans and first responders.

Participants apply for the program, and those selected spend six weeks working under the guidance of professional trainers. Each veteran or first responder chooses their mustang, then begins the gentling process together. This isn’t just about training a horse — it’s about mutual learning. As the horse learns to trust, lead, load, and accept handling, the handler learns patience, communication, self-awareness, and confidence. The result is a deep, lifelong bond that fulfills both horse and human.

During the six weeks, Marc focused on:

  • Gentling and trust-building – helping the horse feel safe with people.

  • Halter training and groundwork – leading, yielding, and following cues.

  • Handling and grooming – getting the horse comfortable with touch and care.

  • Hoof care and trailer loading – for health and safe transport.

After meeting several horses, Marc found one that completely stole his heart — and she clearly adores him back. They will continue their journey together and see how far they can go as a team.

Operation Remount is located in Jay Em, Wyoming and saves horses at Elm Creek, Nevada.

in Collaborative is a proud supporter and sponsor of Operation Remount. We look forward to supporting Marc and the program for years to come.
